Like mentioned earlier, Anemia is a health condition attributed to deficiency of red blood cells. It’s important to understand the symptoms of anemia to prevent and to treat it. Anemia is a very common problem and it’s estimated that over 50% of the US population is affected. It often goes unnoticed, though blood tests can help detect or even prevent this problem.
The most common causes of anemia include deficiency of iron or vitamins, aging, lack of proper food, or chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS, and rheumatoid arthritis. Anemia is also inherited and it’s important to determine the type of Anemia to get it treated. Chronic fatigue, memory loss, pale skin, etc are the most common symptoms of anemia. Since red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen, lack of those cells result in less oxygen supply.
This in return impairs the functions of organs and organ systems. Though anyone can get Anemia, infants, elders and pregnant ladies are at higher risk of contracting Anemia. Craving to eat non-traditional items is also one of the symptoms of anemia. Anemic patients are often observed to chew ice, though the reason for cravings is not yet established. Prevention is best and a healthy diet that’s packed with required nutrients, is all that’s required to avert anemia.
Treatment varies from a healthy diet coupled with supplements, however it’s important to consult a physician. Detection and treatment is crucial to avoid further damage and ignoring this condition is often fatal.
